Holiday Cottage on edge of Dorset village
Cosy cottage with a river running through wild gardens and a pool; walk to good pubs, drive to the Jurassic coast in half an hour
This quirky cottage is in the heart of the village of Piddletrenthide but it’s set back from the lane and surrounded by three acres of deliciously wild gardens with hidden nooks and crannies, a paddock, and the River Piddle drifting through.
Lucy lives in the adjoining house but you’re nice and private, with an al fresco dining area and barbecue – you can use the outdoor swimming pool in summer too. Find fresh bread, good coffee, milk and flowers as a welcome, and a bundle of games, books, comfy sofas and a wood-burner to keep things cosy.
Bridleways can be joined directly from the house and it’s a pleasant walk or easy drive to Cerne Abbas. Visit Thomas Hardy’s home town of Dorchester – which inspired many of his books – in ten minutes, or to the coast in half an hour.

People say the nicest things…
We loved our stay at West Cottage and particularly appreciated the kindness of our hostess, Lucy.
The property was well equipped, clean, quiet and warm. We loved the garden and the bridle paths leading into the hills. We also loved the books on the area and the care with which the place was maintained. Diane, GB
Beautiful surroundings and super nice cottage, very friendly owner.
The place itself and the surroundings. The cottage is located on the owner's property. There is a beautiful garden, with a stream, a terrace, a large lawn and a nice swimming pool. From the cottage you can make beautiful walks. The village is cute and there are good pubs in the area. The village of Cerne Abbas is very nice, with a nice small village shop (about 5 km). In the cottage itself is all you need. A nice sofa, fireplace and fine beds. Lucy received us very warmly and had many good tips about what to do in the area. The beach, and e.g. Durdle Door, is a half hour drive, so great base.

Lovely conversion annexed to the main house. Perfect for a quiet weekend next to the wood burner. The New Inn in Cerne Abbas provides a nice lunch/dinner. Thoughtful owner with good communications. Underfloor heating in the ensuite was very welcome on a chilly morning. Paul, GB
